Wireless LAN Magic Quadrant: Motorola, HP ProCurve, Enterasys ascend Non-HP site
"We always liked what HP was doing," King said. "We thought that the ProCurve management console spanning wired and wireless networks was a very good thing." King said a cultural shift within HP has also contributed to ProCurve's rise. CEO Mark Hurd has made the ProCurve division a priority since he took over the company. "The fact that HP was able to get this acquisition done in a very short time tells me that the guy running ProCurve now has a very short line to Mark Hurd," he said. "ProCurve is becoming a whole heck of a lot more important to the HP and EDS sales forces, lending credence to the [idea] that HP is now fully committed to the networking space and believes that wireless networking in general is an opportunity to penetrate the market and take share away from Cisco."

(HP CEO Mark Hurd) championed the ProCurve business, helping nurture it from a few hundred million dollars in annual sales to about $1 billion. Hewlett-Packard’s strategy with ProCurve — expand revenue and profit by biting into a leader’s lucrative franchise — is vintage Mark Hurd. HP ProCurve's WLAN Strategy Hits the Ground Running Non-HP site
Less than two months after Hewlett-Packard Co.'s acquisition of Colubris Networks, HP ProCurve said it has fully integrated the two companies' channels and product lines and is launching a new wireless network access point. Combining the two portfolios means that the channel can offer either fully integrated technology or overlay wireless solutions. Overlay solutions open up a new world of customers to ProCurve partners, enabling them to lay ProCurve WLAN technology on top of existing infrastructure from several manufacturers.

"Previously you could add WLAN to any ProCurve wired Ethernet switch … that's a great solution for the ProCurve installed base. What if a customer had Cisco or Enterasys, and they wanted to add a wireless LAN? ProCurve would be locked out of that opportunity," said Carl Blume, ProCurve's mobility solutions director, on Monday.

...The release shows why HP ProCurve acquired Colubris: The WLAN company brought with it much faster 802.11n technology, as well as inroads into vertical markets like hospitality and healthcare.

HP ProCurve Adds 802.11n Wireless (Peter Judge)
The ProCurve MSM410, announced on Monday, is a single-radio 802.11n access point designed for use in such places as hotels and hospitals. It will cost $649 (£421), HP ProCurve said in a statement. The product is based on technology from Colubris, whose acquistion was announced in August. In addition, HP ProCurve has revitalised its whole WLAN range, which previously relied on technology from outside providers, with switches and other access points from Colubris. The Colubris range also adds 802.11n capabilities, which were lacking in the HP line.

Colubris's network products were well-established in hotels and other hotspot providers, but the company had not got into the enterprise market. HP ProCurve has done well in enterprise networking, but has been hampered by its WLAN product range, which was based on older technology licensed from Symbol Technologies.

HP ProCurve Plots Wireless Assault Non-HP site
Fresh off its October acquisition of wireless vendor Colubris Networks, HP (NYSE:HPQ) ProCurve on Monday integrated Colubris' entire wireless portfolio into its networking arsenal while also launching a new 802.11n access point. The wireless integration, a key component many industry analysts said ProCurve was lacking as it battles networking behemoth Cisco Systems (NSDQ:CSCO), stems from the Oct. 1 acquisition of Waltham, Mass.-based Colubris, ProCurve's first-ever acquisition…"Now you have the choice of integrated, overlay and 802.11n," Racca said. "It really gives that flexibility in options."

HP Moves Quickly to Integrate Colubris Non-HP site
…HP has a solid success in the networking market during the past few years and been able to hoist itself into the number two position. With the market constricting, it made a much needed move into the wireless space. The company wants to parlay its acquisition to gain more market share in both the wired and wireless markets. Now that Colubris Network and its 802.11n products have been swallowed, Hewlett-Packard says it’s ready to conquer new markets. Hewlett-Packard is ready to start punching against all wireless enterprise heavyweights now that the integration of products from its acquisition of Colubris Networks is complete. HP Adds Colubris Products to ProCurve Portfolio
..."Wireless mobility is being deployed in more and more places, reaching further out into not just dense city populations, but into rural and suburban populations. That's a huge area for growth," said Corey Copping, product marketing manager, ProCurve Networking, HP. According to Copping, HP sees the wireless market growing by at least 25 per cent next year, and the company plans to capitalize on in. "Interestingly enough," Copping added, "50 to 60 per cent of that growth will come from wireless n solutions. Customers are demanding leading edge technology that allows for the most bandwidth and the most information to be pumped through at a time, and right now wireless n is the fastest wireless throughput you can get."
